Join the Great Lakes District of the

Eastern Surfing Association.

If the thought of joining the Great Lakes District of the Eastern Surfing Association has ever crossed you mind, right now is the best time to do it.

For your membership (less than $30) you will receive a free subscription to Surfing Magazine (about a $20 value in itself), membership cards, stickers, discounts at many east coast surf shops, the right to compete in any ESA District event on the east coast and help the surfers here in the Great Lakes to advance to the Northeast Regional and Eastern Surfing Championships at Hatteras. We have also produced many world surfing champions, including Kelly Slater, Freida Zamba, C.J. Hobgood, and Lisa Anderson among others.

The ESA is the largest amateur competitive organization in the world, with approximately 7,000 members in 26 Districts from the Great Lakes, Northern New England, all the way down the east coast and back up into the Gulf of Mexico.

The number of slots that we receive for our district is based upon the number of members we have in each division, as of December 31st each year. So, even if you don't want to compete, you can help your freshwater brothers who do by joining now. This can be done online by going to
http://www.surfesa.org and be sure to put the code "GRLK" (for Great Lakes), as your home district.

We are revamping this year and I will be putting together a winter edition of the Great Lakes "Tube Times" with some excellent archived material from our former District Directors, including the infamous Oscar "Moondoggie" Wolfbrandt, along with some neat pictures of this year's action.

We will also be sending our team to the Northeast Regionals to be held on Long Island, NY, at Ditch Plains, Montauk on May 14, 15 and 16, 2004. From there we will send those that advance to the Easterns in Hatteras in September. The Great Lakes district has had surfers competing at the Regionals and Easterns almost every year since 1989. Many of our guys do quite well and take great delight in kicking saltwater arse!!!
